How to determine which graphics card is: discrete or integrated?

It is possible that the question is quite easy and noob, but still. I just wondered out of curiosity. My laptop and the built-in antalovsky, and a discrete NVIDIA graphics card. Fumbled with the settings, I found it in any application which video card to use. And which graphics card by default. And how to determine which of them is used in a given time? And depending on what they switch? (It seems to be not just stupid "list of apps", but also depending on load).

I personally define inclusion of discrete graphics for teplosten exhaust and noise of the cooler =)
Generally by default, mode "default" — specifies the load, in theory, but in control panel NVIDIA you can choose which graph. adapter why to use — can be set to use the default vstroennyy or discrete, and specific applications to supply what video card to use. Either right-click on the program — "Run with graphics processor -> nVidia || a Built-in".
