I'll try to go to the other side. And whether you want to get a higher education?
1. Now the need of a diploma is highly questionable, especially for IT specialists. None of my many, many sobesedovanii not raised the issue of education. Friends and colleagues are in agreement with me.
2. Is it worth spending 5-6 years of your life studying, cramming, conflicts with teachers, bribes and other hardships of student life? From my experience I can tell you that 80-90 percent of these efforts in any way will not be needed in real life.
3. Necessarily need a diploma? Who said that? Most likely parents. They, as immigrants from the Soviet Union "know" and "believe" that the diploma of higher education is the key to a brighter future. Unfortunately or fortunately, but those days are gone.
I have a bachelor's degree of the Kiev Polytechnic University (NTUU "KPI"), faculty of Informatics and calc. engineering (FICE), specialty: automated control in technical systems. Accurate to the Department, it is considered to be the most coolest IT-shnym education in Ukraine. And I think that 4.5 years have passed in vain... Someone will probably disagree, but from my point of view, many of the items were completely useless: cultural studies, languages, history, philosophy, life safety,... there Was a lot of "zhelezyachnye" courses, which I choose softwaree the direction of application is not seen and did not see until now. And courses to develop and administer... a Big part of learning material is stuck somewhere 15-20 years ago that in our times almost equivalent to the loss of Fidler. And from the point of view of a way of conveying knowledge and involvement of the teacher in the process, it was interesting to attend just a few courses.
When all studied graphics in pure Pascal, I ignored the rules and used samopisnaya the graphics library in ASM, which gave in comparison amazing performance-what is often called the unjust anger of the teacher, who knew nothing of my writings, but there was nothing I could do: the job that was performed and the probability to find ±such as the work flow was near zero.
When everything crammed some prehistoric garbage (no one understood why it is needed), I slept or worked. In the end it brought me a lot of difficulties at delivery.
When all taught administration of Netware, I drew only some fundamental aspects of the administration and watched as the popularity of NetWare go down.
Of the 4.5 years spent in College, I can name only a few items which whom in some way was useful to me: linear algebra, probability theory and Mat. statistics, engineering, administration, 8086 ASM(very little), cryptography. It's about 5-10% in dry matter.
All this did not prevent me to look for jobs and work in the 1st year (actually since high school) and to do what I was interesting and seemed useful in the framework of the chosen path.
If I could change something in the past, now have I modeled their education in a very different manner:
— To sit on freelancing, feel the demands of the market and to begin to explore interesting/profitable area.
— To go to work, perhaps at first even for "food", to gain experience in command and actual conditions.
— Finish the new economic school (not high school of course, but not the faculty of any institution, optimally 0.5-1 year), accounting and something of the basic law. This knowledge is sometimes severely lacking.
— Periodically visit relevant and society-wide seminars, workshops, courses.
— To generate ideas and to model their implementation in your business.
The purpose of this message is not to convince, but to show some different view and provoke an analysis of their needs and realities. Talk to people chosen profession and to those who have already finished high school and worked for several years. I think their experience will be useful.
In any case, good luck and do not get govnokoder :)
