There is a Lenovo notebook and old monitor. The laptop output for external monitor — hdmi, and the monitor has only d-sub (vga) input. I've seen cables-adapters hdmi — vga, but as far as I know hdmi is digital signal and vga analog. Except for such cable does not need any Converter? Help to understand the problem, please.

Yes, you need a Converter, unfortunately, not cheap (for example, besprovodnoe.ru/aktivniy_perehodnikkonverter_hdmi_na_vga_i_audio.html)
The theme izezzhena, Google on request "hdmi vga adaptor"

Converters there are cheaper — on ebay you can find compact converters for ~$20.

On ali says:
"This cable does not directly use for PC connect to the TV. Please check carefull before your order!
Please make sure your computer's HDMI port has the function of analog signal output while using HDMI port."

There is a Converter, it's not just an adapter is a device which convert one video signal to another. vgahdmi.ru/catalog/konvertery--preobrazovateli--pe... he then took the price tags sane. Now mine there are already converters from any signal that early bridge was just nemyslemo, I mean the equivalent number and Vice versa, now quite possible and workable, with no loss in quality.
