A PC with Windows 8 64bit and work scanner Canon LiDE 30. Honest manufacturer says that drivers for 64 bit Windows and never will be.

I understand that I need to put a virtual machine with Windows XP 32 (for which there is a driver) or Ubuntu (which is out of the box supports it) and to share a folder on both (guest and home) OS.

There are other options, easier? Maybe there are ready solutions, which used only a folder to share?

P. S. there is a program VueScan. But it stands as a cheap scanner. Want free and legal solutions.

There are easier, faced with a similar problem. The exact name of the program won't tell (I'll tell her tonight, if not forget it), but the point is that she knows how to work with the vast number of scanners and does not require drivers to onnym.

Canon LiDE 30, though, and a good, but fairly inexpensive scanner. IMHO the easiest solution is to buy a new scanner this LiDE type, but with support for Win 8. For Example, LiDE 110.

Try to force the driver from a different Canon model.
I Epson Perfection 610 connected said driver from the Epson Stylus CX 3200
