Problem: abnormal nasty ripples on the external monitor. Horizontal, light, blurred, shimmering field.

Monitor: 20" 1600x900. features d-sub/vga. dvi (acquired yesterday. new. work)

Laptop: acer 2920 (~2008. worthy serves as belief and the truth for which it receives updates). features d-sub/vga, s-video

As the monitor is connected: via cable from the kit. vga-vga.

Native laptop screen shows perfectly.

Tried to update packages (Ubuntu), set up, monitor (www.techmind.org/lcd/phasing.html, www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/all_tests.php displayed correctly).

Tried to connect to the netbook (same conditions): picture perfect, flicker/ripple there.

I tried to run Win XP (can't vouch that there was everything we needed and the latest driver). The ruffle was.

cable D-sub (also called vga) uses analog signal. Obviously near the cable is the source of electromagnetic interference. try perevernul cable ends, or, more effectively, purchase a quality cable.

Also, the noise reduction with a decrease in razresheniya of the screen. As the amount of data is reduced, this will reduce the influence of noise on the picture.

I have a similar picture was while the laptop is plugged in. Best of all it was noticeable on a gray background. If off (battery) is lost. Globally solved by replacing DVI (ripple completely disappears) or use the monitor in power filter (I helped two ruffle markedly decreased but not totally disappeared). The options with the sticking and monitor and the laptop, or just the monitor or just the laptop into the filter, try

Came to solving complex problems, collecting everything you need on the Internet. The flickering was reduced to the minimum acceptable level. The solution to the problem of crooked, even if you fulfill all points.
\r
1) the Maximum carries all the wires and devices in space (the farther apart the better). But not less than 1.5-2 meters.
\r
2) Connect the laptop and the monitor into a different outlet.
\r
3) Monitor set UPS, laptop without UPS or Vice versa (if available UPS).
\r
4) Obmakivaem foil all the wires and the power supply for shielding interference.
\r
5) set the display settings the resolution is not 60 Hz (75).
\r
6) If on a specific monitor still flickers, try another monitor — in my case helped still further to reduce flicker. If you buy new, it is better with HDMI and DVI outputs, with the respective ports in the laptop, you can undo all these perversions (foil, UPS, etc.)
\r
7) Eksperimentiruesh with screen resolutions — maybe some permissions flickering less noticeable.
\r
8) Customizable colors on the monitor when a certain combination of colors flickering less noticeable.
\r
9) will conduct avtosalonu monitor (usually there is a button on the monitor).
\r
10) If possible, extend the cable to the laptop, and the part that goes from the UPS — preferably up to five meters and as far as possible carry out the power supply. You can try to buy several power supplies and experimental way to choose the best.
\r
11) Say, it is better to use a short cable VGA with ferrite rings (you can additionally wrap the foil) but in my case it did not help. It is better when there are several different VGA-cables — experimentally select the best.
\r
12) As the most stupid variant, it is possible to change the laptop but it will not be considered — I have the most comfortable in the world the laptop, though, and no DVI connector.
\r
The problem with the flickering monitor when connected to laptop serious and it must be solved comprehensively, using all available resources. For the flicker reduction for each ProVent worth fighting for!
\r
Not to work from a laptop battery and accordingly, it does not fray — it is possible to buy the UPS to disable the beeping settings, only work from UPS when they leave for a smoke, turn on the cord of the UPS into a power outlet. Although, probably easier to buy a monitor with the right connectors (HDMI, etc.)
