On the computer HDD divided into two partitions: logical drive C is volume of 14.6 GB (Windows XP and programs) and logical drive D volume 134 GB (other files). NTFS, the cluster size of 4.00 KB. You plan to install Windows 7. The ability to backup the files you need there. How can I improve? Namely:

Option 1: re-partition a disk into sections? If Yes, then two or three partitions already (1-y — 7 for Windows, 2nd for programs, 3rd for other files)? If two partitions, how much space you need for Windows 7? In all cases, which cluster size is better to make formatting and what size partitions?

Option 2: If you buy another physical disk for Windows 7. What size? Now the HDD with Serial ATA, then the second disc should be the same interface or IDE?

If D:\\ is a responsive free can linknote C:\\ to 25(at least). Then without touching the D:\\ with a clear conscience to put Windows on the C:\\.

A sense now to buy a IDE if on mother there is a SATA connector. Regarding volume, a strange question as you need, and buy.

1) Re-sharing is optional, it is possible to safely extend the logic 1 due to the free space second. For win7 need like at least 20, but this is no stock under the program. I would pick the 30-40 GB. Under a separate section to make optional (and inconvenient to constantly keep track of where the software is installed... +lag on a curved piece of software that does not like to be installed in redefault folder)
2) you Can buy with any connector, if the motherboard supports.

No longer think that games should be put on D and on F and on the C drive constantly need something to clean, to install a small utility.

Topic: change the size of the disks or make one of the two without losing data is possible with the help of many programs, and even installer Windows 7. I used Acronis Disk Director. But the important data is still better than pre-copy.

What's the point in a separate section under Windows? Maybe I do not understand something, but since Windows XP I have when covered with capital — it was only the fault of the screw, and there are at least how many logical drives break all the same. From a separate partition to be more than good hemorrhoids place over there, then something else

4 years is quite a lot for the hard disk, so buy a new one. At the time of installation windows 7 old drive all turn off just in case. If you are going to put the old disk, as mentioned above 20GB under it a little. A minimum of 50GB. 20GB you immediately disappear after installation. Another point, windows 7 requires a single partition, and two primary and 100MB more for your system needs (maybe the bootloader). If the installer is nowhere to take these ill-fated 100MB for another partition, then it can easily kill yourself! no questions asked! the second section where you have data. Buy a new hard and in the BIOS put it as first in the queue.
